Back in OH-IO!

So it has been a week since I last wrote in here and I do apologize but the stupid Sheraton Hotel wanted $10 a night for internet, and to be quite frank, I was not doing it! So I will update y'all on the fun since I last posted.

Salt Lake City, Utah might be the most beautiful place in the country! Just throwing that out there. I really enjoyed the city, the ballpark, the Salt Lake Bees organization and the 3 days we got to spend out there. The Salt Lake Bees are the Triple-A affiliate of the LA Angels of Anaheim, and I actually submitted my resume and cover letter to the Bees organization in hopes that they will have a job opening in the near future. Please keep your fingers crossed! The General Manager said they are re-organizing their front office coming up in the fall, so hopefully the likelihood is growing.

Our game at the Salt Lake Bees went extremely well and everything went smooth and as planned. It was the first time we did everything perfectly and it was a lot of fun and absolutely beautiful. The entire view out of the outfield is the Rocky Mountains, and it is a sight that will take your breath away.

We are now currently back in Dayton, Ohio. We flew in last night from Salt Lake City to Columbus and then made the 1 hour drive to Dayton. It was a quick and comfortable flight, considering I slept most of the way, but my iPod has been my savior and keeps me sane on the long flights :) Our next game is on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 (tomorrow) at the Dayton Dragons, and then we have a game on Friday, June 27, 2008 in Columbus, Ohio at the Columbus Clippers.

So far things have been going great!!! I am learning a lot, and becoming prepared for a future career. It amazing that June is almost over :( Thanks again for reading! Keep in touch!

State Number 5, Already!

So far, I have traveled from Detroit to Dallas, Texas, then to Oklahoma, and have driven through Kansas, Missouri, and now we are enjoying a few days in Des Moines, Iowa. It took almost 9 hours of driving through the Great Midwest to travel from Oklahoma City to Des Moines, Iowa, and we traveled via a Subaru Forrester, and Kia Sedona minivan which we had rented. We had to postpone our arrival to Iowa due to the extreme flooding that has occurred throughout the entire state, but so far here in Des Moines at the Iowa Cubs, there is no real damage that is evident. The only scene that really shows any sign of flooding are the sand bags that are scattered throughout the city.

We actually will be performing tomorrow night (June 18, 2008) at the Iowa Cubs, so I am actually getting ahead and keeping up with this blog. I am really having a great time, and it's and awesome experience. We will be in Iowa until Thursday morning, and then we will be off to Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon. Below is our flight itinerary and we will be in Salt Lake City, Utah until June 23, 2008.

June 19 -- Flying to Salt Lake City, Utah
Depart Des Moines, Iowa at 2:50pm
US Air 2944
Arrive Phoenix 3:49pm
Depart Phoenix 4:51pm
US Air 456
Arrive Salt Lake City 7:29pm

Also, please check out the few photos that I have posted on this blog. They are just simple photos of the ballparks that we have been to so far, but it should give some idea of the places I (we) have been. The next post will not be until we arrive in Salt Lake City, but I hope you are all enjoying this, because I am having a great time sharing it with all of you. Thanks for reading! God Bless!

Happy Father's Day!

Dear Dad,
Fathers are wonderful people,
too little understood,
And we do not sing their praises
as often as we should,
For Father struggles daily
to live up to his image
As protector and provider
and hero of the scrimmage,
And perhaps that is the reason
we sometimes get the notion
That fathers are not subject
to the thing we call emotion.
But if you look inside Dad's heart,
where no one else can see,
You'll find he's sentimental
and soft as he can be.
Fathers are just wonderful
in a million different ways,
And they merit loving compliments
and accolades of praise,
For the only reason Dad aspires
to fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him
and bring them happiness,
And like our heavenly Father,
he's a guardian and a guide,
Someone we can count on
to be always on our side.
Happy Father's Day, Dad! Love you and thanks for everything. I truely appreciate it!

The First Few Days

I apologize for not keeping this updated over that past few days, but we have been extremely busy with games and traveling, so I am going to fill y'all in on the things that have happened since the last post!

First off, the y'all is starting to kick in with being in the south over the past few days, so bare with me, it's kind of a habit right now! Our second game was another great experience at the Fort Worth Cats, of the Independent League, which we arrived around 3:30pm from our car ride from Dallas, which was around an hour drive with traffic. With a small stadium of only 4,000 seats, the Fort Worth Cats packed in around 5,000 people with standing room only, to see the Famous San Diego Chicken. Again, my duties have been to just get into the flow of things and to become aquainted with the way the system works. The game, and our show was great into which the Fort Worth Cats defeated the Pensacola Pelicans, 18-6.

After the game, we packed all of our equipment; let's just say that there are 5 crew members, all of our luggage, including personal bags totals 10 pieces of checked luggage for flights (2 per person) and 10 pieces of carry-on luggage (2 per person). It is quite a bit of stuff, but it makes the show happen and without all of it, we would not be able to be the best in-game entertainment in the country.

We worked our way to the hotel around 12:30 am (the usual time we get out of a ballpark), checked into room 1308, on the 13th floor, on Friday the 13th, and we were all starving. Kind of ironic, we all thought so. Unfortunately, most places are only open until midnight, so Dominos Pizza was the only alternative. We checked into the Marriott in downtown Fort Worth and did not get to sleep until 2:30am, once we ate and settled down, but knowing that we had a 8:00am taxi cab ride to Dallas Love Field Airport, to catch our 10:00am flight to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was a great flight in which was only 50 minutes long, but I slept for the entire thing :)

Once we got aquainted at the airport, 2 individuals from the Oklahoma Red Hawks picked us up, we checked into the Holiday Inn, ate a little lunch at Sonic, which was right across from our hotel and then we worked our way to the ballpark around 3:30pm to get prepared for our show.

This show was a little different however. It seemed that as if everybody was just going through the motions and the sound guy for the Red Hawks screwed up the music tracks for a few of the inning breaks, which effects the whole inning break, but after 3 straight games with a lot of traveling, it was bound to play an impact on all of us, especially since we are not used to the whole thing as of just yet. We left the ballpark again around midnight and had to eat pizza again at 1am!

Today, June 15, 2008, we actually have a day off and we are going to hang out in Oklahoma City, catch a ballgame at the Red Hawks to where we can just be fans for once. We were supposed to travel to Des Moines, Iowa today, but with the massive flooding and damage to their community we are going to hold off and see what their front office would like us to do since we do not want to make the trip and have no fans to entertain.

I will be sure to keep you posted since we have only 2 games, one in Des Moines, Iowa at the Iowa Cubs (the Triple-A offiliate of the Chicago Cubs) on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 and then one in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Salt Lake Bees (the Triple-A offiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) on Saturday June 21, 2008.

Keep in touch, God Bless, and I will talk to all of you shortly!

The First Game!

On Wednesday June 11, 2008, I arrived in Dallas, Texas, which is absolutely beautiful and very hot and dry, and I met all of the members of the San Diego Chicken Crew. The crew includes, Ted Giannoulas (the Chicken), Dave Barac (Managing Director), and the two other interns, Joe Lim, from Sacramento, who is probably one of the best break-dancers that I have seen, and George Barajas, from the San Diego area, who is going to be a Hollywood stunt man someday because of his abilities to do anything! The crew is incredible and will definitely make this summer the best that it can be.

We did our first game yesterday, June 12, 2008 in Frisco, Texas (northern Dallas) at the Frisco RoughRiders at Dr. Pepper Park. It was a great experience, even though my duties today were to just be an observer to get familiar with my surroundings and the performance that would become my life for the next few months. It was a great ballpark in which it was very different based on everything. The facade looked like a Cape Cod beach house, the interior felt more like a outdoor metropark then an actual ballpark which was very different and unique. The bullpens were also off of the field and placed up in the stands, which I believe they originally forgot about bullpens and that was the only default place to put them :D

I will keep posting and will get pictures up very soon so y'all can see what I am talking about!

June 10, 2008

Today is my final day in Toledo and it is bittersweet :( We got terrible news this morning that a dear family friend has passed away suddenly this morning on his way to work. God, may he rest in peace; he will be greatly missed! I will unfortunately have to miss everything because I do have to leave tomorrow morning, but I will be there in spirit. Please keep him and his family and friends in your prayers since it was so sudden and very unexpected.

Tomorrow morning I am traveling at 12:30pm from Detroit, Michigan to Dallas, Texas and I should land around 3:00pm in which then I will have some time to wait for the rest of the Famous San Diego Chicken crew as for we are all landing at different times. Final thoughts before I leave...

Wednesday June 4, 2008

Well, today I am finally setting this thing up for my family and my friends to keep track of me this summer and to see the progress of my adventures this summer! I hope to keep this updated once I fully begin this internship next Wednesday, June 11, 2008.

I want to take this time to thank everybody, from my co-worker's at CYO, the Toledo Mud Hens, and Red Robin, to both sides of my family, including my parents and my brother Eric, and to my friends; you guys mean so much to me and words can not describe how fortunate I am to have this opportunity. I would not be in this position if it was not for all of your efforts and for that I am grateful and I will never forget my roots.

Please take time to check in every once in a while to check on the status of my adventures! I will talking to all of you soon.
